Usha Ananda Krishna

Usha Ananda Krishna graduated from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, and has worked as an architect in New Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. In 1980 she began writing advertising copy, interspersing the two careers till she began writing fiction fulltime. During much of this time she was a partner at Pause and Effect, an architecture and interior design firm she co-founded in Kolkata.

In 1995 her first novel, A Turbulent Passage, was published by UBSPD, New Delhi. This was followed by a biography in 1998, Minds on Fire, commissioned by an Information Technology entrepreneur, and published by Sterling Books. Then she edited/put together two books on Jain philosophy—Finding Your Spiritual Centre and Transforming Your Mind. After her move to Kathmandu in 1996, she began work on Fallout while contributing regularly to Mirror, a monthly magazine brought out by the United Nations Women’s Organization. In the last two years she ventured into playwriting, and wrote two radio plays and two for the stage, one of which was short-listed by Kali Productions, UK, for their theatre festival. In addition to Fallout she has completed a collection of short stories. Currently she is working on a second novel.

Her interests include reading, theatre, contemporary art and architecture and furniture design, as well as trekking – she has trekked extensively in the Himalayas.
