International Women’s Day
8th March 2003-2004
Proposed Programme of Events during the year.
(This is subject to change as collaborations and dates are finalised.)

An online event to launch the creation of a web based resource of Indian Women Abroad beginning with the DC area. Beginning 8th March 2003 on the occasion of International Women’s Day we will begin to present individual Indian women and their work.

The resource which will be a work-in-progress can be viewed online as the building blocks are put into place. The online event will demonstrate the power of the internet as a communication tool, the power of a virtual community firmly rooted in the ground and will also give us an experience of how the two can be successfully leveraged.

Video-conferencing facilities and other online partnerships for this are being explored and we expect to bring to you some new indigenous technologies developed in India.

The online event will have two sections:

SECTION ONE:
A web-resource of Indian Women Abroad (beginning with women in the USA)

(We expect to expand this resource in the months ahead, to cover all Indian women abroad.) However we welcome women from others parts of the world even in phase one and will try and include as many as possible who contact us.

Women will be invited to participate based on word-of-mouth referrals of their work by friends, family and/or colleagues. We will present individual e-profiles for each woman included. This does not (As is often presumed) exclude the home maker and women who do volunteer work and social service, and who do not work for a salary.

Individuals  who are not already on the web will get the help they need to create an electronic profile.
We will also provide special discounted web design services (by women for women) for those who wish to have a web presence beyond the free e-profile that we offer. If you would like to learn IT skills at a very discounted rate check out the course offerings at eLearning India.

Each invitee participant will need to email:

1: A brief resume or descriptive paragraph about yourself

2: A self portrait or photograph.

3: Three scanned jpeg images of  your artistic work especially in the case of performing and visual artists.

For those who do not have any electronic images for items 2 and 3.
